Little Diva Giving Back!!!

When I was growing up in the pageant world, it was a must with every pageant to give back. Every pageant had Character Criteria that related each contestant to their goals and reputation. Character Criteria included the community involvement, and charitable work. Public speaking engagements and charitable events generated awareness for a variety of causes. To me this is what is missing in the pageant systems today. Don't get me wrong, there are a few out there, but most pageant directors leave this to the higher up pageant systems like Miss America & Miss USA. I believe we need to bring back Character Criteria to all pageant systems! We put our children in pageants to gain confidence, to learn poise and sportsmanship but are we teaching our children to help one another?

Let me introduce you guys to Iyonia Boyce!! Iyonia is the perfect expample of exactly what I am talking about. I met Iyonia back in the summer and was amazed at the great things this child has accomplished. Her heart is full of gold and her resume proves exactly what a little good home training can do for others. Every time I see this young lady, she has a smile on her face and knows exactly what her goals in life are!!

Iyonia Boyce, an eleven year old young lady, founded Little Diva’s In Training four years ago. Through her organization she volunteers for various children’s charities which include St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Hope House and March of Dimes. Iyonia has recruited over six young ladies to volunteer for these charities as well.

Over the past four years, she has raised $3800 and donated the funds to the various charities. She has also organized a “wish list” drive for Hope House and was able to donate books, toiletries, arts/crafts, and toys. She has participated in numerous fundraising 5K’s and walks. Iyonia also participated in P.O.E. 4 Kids (Pushing Outstanding Excellence 4 Kids) annual fashion show to raise money and toys for several families to have a great Christmas. She has volunteered her time to model in the 2011 March of Dimes Fashion Show and Live Auction and the 2011 Christmas Cottage Fashion Show and Live Auction benefitting LeBhoneur Children’s Hospital.

Iyonia has been instrumental in raising awareness to youth volunteerism and recruiting others to volunteer as well as raising funds and items for various organizations. She has volunteered over 90 hours for this year alone and an estimated 250 hours over the past four years. She has accomplished all of this and has remained on the Honor Roll at her school.

Iyonia was motivated to begin Little Diva’s In Training because she was born premature and was sick most of the time until she was five years old. When she was nine years old she started volunteering for the March of Dimes because of the direct effect of their aid to her as a child. She also competes in pageants and won numerous titles which have given a platform to create more awareness for the charities she supports. She is the reigning International Junior Miss Tennessee Preteen 2011-2012. In July 2012 Iyonia will be representing Tennessee by competing for the International Preteen title in Orlando, Fl. Iyonia also holds the following titles; Tiny Miss Memphis Princess 2012, USA National Miss Tennessee Preteen 2011 and Miss Panola County 2010.

Iyonia has received numerous awards which include Kayla Watson Humanitarian Award, Bronze Presidential Volunteer Service Award, Kohl’s Cares Community Service Award and several Citizenship Awards.

Her aspirations are to graduate high school and attend college to become a veterinarian or fashion stylist. She also wants to continue serving and making an impact on her community as well as others. Currently she is in the process of receiving a nonprofit status for the program she founded, Little Diva’s in Training. Iyonia’s passion for giving back, modeling and love of pageantry is the driving force behind her preparations to become the future Miss America.

CAN YOU SAY WOW?? Every parent should have their pageant princess follow in Iyonia's foot steps. I'm not going to preach to you but, Philippians 2:4 "Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others." Luke 6:38 "Give and it will be given to you." There is no doubt in my mind Iyonia will be an over achiever and become a future Miss America. Thank you Iyonia for making the world a better place and for being the great role model that you are.

INTRODUCING BROOKLYN GRACE MACLIN

Who is 3 years old has 44 crowns, 74 trophies, and over 30 pageant medals?? That would be the magnificent Brooklyn Grace.  This little ray of sunshine is the first to grace the blog of Pageants Rock for the simple fact at 3 years old she is utterly AMAZING.  Brooklyn started in the pageant world at the the ripe old age of 3 months.  Her current titles for 2011 include 0-3 Mini Supreme Patriotic Ponies, 0-3 Mini Supreme Adorable Miss Gulf Coast, 2-3 year old Miss Shelby County, 0-3 Mini Supreme & 0-6 Overall Most Beautiful America's Most Beautiful Girls, 0-3 Ultimate Grand Supreme Christmas Extravaganza for AMBG and S&A Productions, and 0-3 Mini Supreme USA Beauties Christmas Pageant. Remember people...that is just this year!  If you have not met this little girl you need to put it on your bucket list of things to do because not only is she adorable she is just plain fun and puts a smile on anyone's face. FABULOUS is an understatement.

Brooklyn loves the pageant world.  She is a glitz girl and when you ask her what her favorite thing about pageants is, she replies, "I LIKE TO ROCK THE STAGE!" To prepare Brooklyn for a pageant, her mother and father practice with her every night for at least 30 minutes 2 weeks prior to the pageant.  Together as a family they watch several episodes of Toddlers & Tiaras over & over again. Brooklyn gets her nails done,  and her mother makes sure that all clothes are acceptable, and prepares music and props as needed.

To be a dedicated Glitz Girl you have to have the best of the best and Brooklyn's parents do just that. At 3 years old she has already had 8 glitz pageant dresses and numerous other outfits for each pageant.  It's hard to keep up with this rising star.  Her beautiful clothes are made by Mrs. Etta of Lepanto, AR, she takes modeling from Showstoppers Studio and has her own hair and makeup artist Shanna Banana. (if that is what Brooklyn calls her, I'm gonna call her that too!)

Just a side note, Brooklyn also models for several boutiques.  She has modeled their clothes for websites and magazines. With that personality & beauty would you expect anything else?? I'm just waiting for Disney to snatch her up. Maybe she can sing the Shanna Banana song!! With all jokes aside this little pageant princess is just a normal little girl outside of the glitz and glamour.

SUNLESS TANNING!! The other form of makeup.

Beauty pageants are all about being flawless.  Facial beauty & makeup must be to die for!! So ladies (and those few dads) I am here to talk about the other form of makeup. **TANNING** With all of my experience tanning is a must. It is part of the contestants makeover from plain to fabulous!! Pageant girls have imperfections only a judge will notice under the blazing harsh glow of stage lights. So how do you get that BRIGHT SUNKISSED look without damaging effects from UV light.  It's called spray tanning. Yep that's right and if you are not certified in this profession you need to hire a professional so your child does not appear to be streaked, spotted, or orange. That's why I turn to my tanning buddy Jamie Tedder, Owner & Certified spray technician of JaMazin Mobile Tanning.
Jamie is the go-to tanning professional in the Mid-South area.  She has been featured on Toddlers & Tiaras, Click Magazine and the Memphis Commercial Appeal.  Jamie has tanned local celebrities, pageant girls, brides to be, body builders, and many more.  The great thing about JaMazin Mobile Tanning....Jamie will come to you and that just makes last minute pageant prep so freaking easy!!
I wanted to get all of my facts straight for all of you devoted high glitz pageant moms/contestants so I went to Jamie to get her perspective and this is what she had to say:
"Most contestants compete under color draining stage lights. A spray tan will offset the pale skin look that stage lights produce.  Deeper skin tones make contestants look more visible and defined for the judges. My airbrush tans are made of a sugar based tanning solution. It's all natural and organic.  You don't have to worry about break outs, it conditions and  evens out skin tone to make your skin appear flawless in front of the judges.  Solutions need to be calibrated for each individual contestant to obtain the right shade for them.  The most favorable time to spray tan is the night before the pageant.  To achieve the best sunless tanning results a contestant should shower & exfoliate to remove dead skin cells before the tanning session. It will make for a prettier and longer lasting tan. In all of 10 minutes you can have a beautiful tan from head to toe."

So you have it in a nutshell with all of the who's the why's and the what's.  To have the pageant edge on other contestants, the other form of makeup, sunless tanning can only help you enhance your pageant experience.  May I add my own personal reason for a JaMazin Mobile Tan. Pageant children say the darnest things!!

Ok so I have been in the pageant world for a long time.  I competed, my daughter, my niece and now my grandbaby!! ( Grandchild does not mean I am old because I am not!! hehe) Newho..I have heard some of the craziest things come out of the mouths of pageant babies.  Let me tell you a couple.

I took my diamond ring off and set on the night stand so my niece could try on her brand new beauty dress. I didn't want to snag it.  Afterwards I saw my niece crawling all over the floor searching for something.  I asked, "What are you doing?" She responded by saying she was looking for the diamond. You guys can only imagine how much of a panic I was in. I thought she had lost my ring, so I start crawling all over the floor with her searching.   She jumps up and says, "I found it, I found it!" I ran over to realize she was talking about one of the swarovski stones from her dress.  She says, "You paid a fortune for that dress with all those diamonds on it so I wanted to make sure we didn't lose one."

When my daughter competed, she was having problems with reading in school.  Her teacher called me in for a conference and proceeded to tell me about the conversation she had with my child about her grades. She said, "You have to know how to read so you can grow up and be anything you want to be." My little pageant princess responded by saying, "I don't have to know how to read, when I grow up I'm going to be a pageant queen and win all the pageants, so all I have to know is math so I can count all of my money!"
